Characters are capped at level 7, which allows players to unlock four class abilities and two points into the skill tree, so they can experience the progression system.

25th on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series S|X, and PC, and includes the game’s prologue and opening chapter, running up until the game’s first real ‘boss’ encounter. Get better loot, and level up to unlock all the skills for your chosen class out of the four available: Technomancer, Devastator, Pyromancer (my personal favourite), and Trickster – and you can move up the tier list to start getting even better loot. Like Blizzard’s dungeon crawler, Outriders has World Tiers, ranging from 1-15, each more difficult but also offering more powerful rewards. Think of it like Diablo, where finishing the game’s campaign is just step one towards the amount of gameplay you’ll get out of it. Once you finish the campaign, you’ll push into Expeditions – tough encounters that will challenge high-level players. The game isn’t shipping with a ‘more to come’ sign tacked on in place of the endgame – that’s all there out of the box.

In an industry dominated by games attempting to crack into the ‘live service’ market, where the game sees constant development and players buy microtransactions, season passes, or pay in other ways to continue to fund that work, Outriders is an anomaly.
Outriders isn’t all that similar to Anthem aside from the genre mash-up they both occupy, but the blend of shooting and special abilities that it brings to the table should satisfy fans of BioWare’s now-abandoned game. The day following the announcement the demo for Square Enix’s Outriders goes live, providing gamers with a new sci-fi RPG-shooter to try out. The decision was a disappointment for fans of the game but did open the door for another title – and at an opportune time. Wednesday afternoon BioWare announced development on the revamp of their struggling sci-fi RPG-shooter Anthem, dubbed Anthem NEXT, would be halted with developers moving to the Dragon Age and Mass Effect teams.
